From the first glimpses of Robert Balotsky's work as Buku, it was clear that the Pittsburgh native and graduate of Music Technology was onto something. With an effortless grasp on sound design and music theory, the young producer combines deceptively simple and emotive melodies, laden with resounding bass drops and intricate drum patterns. With a love of drums rooting from childhood, his work reflects the obsession – emitting percussive elements only a trained ear could produce.

Behind a kit since age 8, he followed the progression of handling duties for multiple bands throughout his adolescence. Once introduced to digital production, Buku took his techniques to stranger dimensions – he's been pushing the boundaries ever since. His early work has placed him at the forefront of a new wave of rising talent amongst East Coast producers. Garnering interest and plays from Starkey, Lunice, Paper Diamond, Shiftee, Clicks & Whistles, Kastle (to name a few), the up-and-comer has been paving a promising road over the last year.

With his debut release, 'Slippy' under the Slit Jockey imprint and a remix of Starkey's 'Command' on Civil Music, Buku is poised to make much larger waves in the coming months: haters beware.

PROLIX

Prolix will be a familiar name to most hardened Drum & Bass heads, with a back catalogue that has seen releases on some of the most prolific and respected labels in the industry such as Playaz Recordings, Metalheadz, Commercial Suicide, Ganja Tek, Project 51, Virus and most recently, RAM Records. His unique style of production has achieved international recognition filling Prolix with the courage he needed to establish his own imprint in 2011, the mighty Trendkill Records.

As his reputation grew at an unprecedented level, Prolix soon found himself collaborating with an array of artists from across the genre such as American super producer Gridlok, Klute and Noisia, as well as remixing the likes of Ed Rush and Optical and Chase and Status. It was with his work for the latter however, that led to an introduction to pioneers DJ Hype and Pascal began the conception of sister label, Ganja Tek for the sole purpose of releasing his distinct and personal sound. Since then, Prolix' production has gone from strength to strength, securing radio support from BBC 1Xtra’s Bailey, Friction and Mary Ann Hobbs.

One of his most seminal releases to date was the immensely popular True Born Playa/ Got to Roll, a collaboration with Gridlok and the legendary MC Fats which soared to the top of the download charts and into every self respecting DJ’s record bags the world over. Teaming up with Gridlok has come up trumps yet again, this time drawing the attention of RAM Records head honcho Andy C, with their debut 12" of 'Membrane' and 'Babylon' devastating soundsystems worldwide.

So with a history of stellar collaborations, it comes as no surprise that 2012 saw MC Coppa work with the talented producer on the 'On Like That' EP. Featuring tracks such as 'Feed the Habit' which saw heavy support from Friction on BBC 1XTRA, 'Interlace' and the 110 bpm electro punk 'Shut the Place Down' Prolix continued to show why he is regarded as one of the top producers in drum and bass.

His label Trendkill Records has also gathered a strong following after releases with artists such as Gridlok, DLR, Silent Witness and Klute. This really is one to watch for the future.

Having toured America, Canada, and Australia, Prolix is well known for his high energy, floor-filling DJ sets. As well as doing his own headline shows across Europe, he has also shared the stage with some of the top names in drum and bass including Sub Focus, Chase and Status, and Spor.

Hydraulix is the alter ego of Damien Williams a 25-year-old DJ/Producer from Sydney, Australia. Damien’s obsession with music began at a young age growing up listening to hip hop, rap and punk rock but it wasn’t until he was 17 when he put everything he had into music and decided to become a DJ.

Since then he has experimented with many different genres but it wasn’t until two years ago when he became Hydraulix that he really cemented his love for bass music. Exploring the EDM musical atmosphere Damien mixes genres together into a set of pure entertainment, combining high energy with crowd-pleasing tunes. After seeing Hydraulix live it’s easy to see how he has become such a big name in the scene so quickly.

Hydraulix is a frequently playing at Sydney’s best bass music clubs with residencies at The Wall (World Bar) and Chinese Laundry. He has played up and down Australia from Sydney to Melbourne to Launceston to Canberra, his ability to transcend genres makes him the chameleon of bass music; catering to any crowd. Hydraulix is a founding member of ‘BOSS BASS’ a popular monthly bass music event and has established himself as one of the front-runners in the Sydney bass music scene.

“I suppose some reasons I love making and playing bass music would be a genuine love for heavy hitting music and the feeling of people absolutely losing their sh*t just the same as I would if I was out there listening”

He has supported some of the biggest and the best including Bassnectar, Bare Noize, Roksonix, Doorly, Dodge and Fuski, Calvertron, Drumsound & Basslinesmith, Tantrum Desire, Figure, Kill The Noise, Le Castle Vania, Kaskade, Sigma, Terravita and Xkore. Since discovering his love of trap music, Hydraulix has had collaborations with The Hi Yahs, Slakk, Pigeonfox and Kurk Kokane as well as many more exciting projects to come in 2013.

You never know what to expect from Hydraulix’s versatile high-energy sets and what makes him such a pleasure to watch and hear. “I'll play any sort of bass music... Anything from 95 bpm trap with simple 808 driven bass to 175 jump up drum and bass... As long as the energy is good and the bass is big I'll play it”

Over the years Hydraulix has received airplay from Triple J, BBC’s Radio 1 as well as currently doing monthly trap mixs for Filth Fm. He is already receiving support from some of the biggest artists in the trap game too, such as: Bro Safari, Rico Tubbs, Alex Young, LeDoom, The Hi Yahs, Party Favor, WATAPACHI, Reid Speed, Notixx, Shift Key and many more. As well as backing from Trap & Bass and Real Trap, couple that with a massive online following including an army of reputable bloggers posting his music and it’s easy to see that Hydraulix is someone to keep an eye on in 2013 and beyond.
