SOLE PURPOSE & SUB.CONSCIOUS present:
OM UNIT
(Civil Music, Cosmic Bridge - London, UK)
https://www.facebook.com/omunit
http://soundcloud.com/omunit
http://www.omunit.com/
With a very distinctive sound, Om Unit has captured the minds of beat fanatics and club-goers alike. Style-wise you could file under lo-slung bass music, slow-house grooves, “wonky”, or you could just say “electronic music.” Style-wise you could say ‘post-genre’ or just ‘electronic beats’. Genres are like borders, rapidly becoming obselete when we see the world today as having an ever-increasing merging of styles and influences.
Jim Coles previously worked under the name 2tall, as a competitive DJ (DMC/ITF etc.), a live performer in the UK and Europe, working with turntable and samplers, and producer of several albums, including 2007’s ‘Beautiful Mindz’, a project put together with Dudley Perkins and Georgia Anne Muldrow. Other albums include "Shifting Tides" (2004) and ‘The Softer Diagram’ (2008). Beyond that, his work with Dented Records led to productions and collaborations with UK rap acts, such as Foreign Beggars, Jehst, Kashmere and Kyza, as well as production and turntablist work on the ‘United Colours of Beggatron’ album. Other notable releases have been his entry into the vinyl game with his refix of Joker’s anthemic “Digidesign” (white label) as well as his 7″ Lightgrids/Lavender on All city, The Corridor EP on Terrorhythm, and 2011′s first solo outing EP “The Timps” on Civil Music and his double-collaboration 12″ with Kromestar on his very own Cosmic Bridge imprint. This alongside a string of remixes for the likes of Adam Freeland, Starkey, Stateless, Foreign Beggars, Ital Tek, Illum Sphere, Take (Sweatson Klank) and many more!
SQUINCY JONES
(Gritsy, Awwready.com - Houston)
http://soundcloud.com/squincyjones
Houston born and raised, Squincy has been DJing since 2000. He's best known for his 8-bit, Dirty South dubstep mixes (Nintendub & I Can Haz Bass) and putting out screwed versions of just about anything.
In addition to being a Gritsy DJ at the infamous dubstep events, Squincy is DIRB! (Doin it Real Big!) Saturday nights at The Lot. When he's not cutting it up, he's handing out screwed-up edits on "Screwed Tuesdays" via his blog, Awwready.com
SOL.ID
(SUB.CONSCIOUS, BassBoost - Austin)
http://soundcloud.com/souleyedee
Sol.ID is an experiment in the intellect of Bass Music. Stemming from a background deeply rooted in Soul, Hip Hop, Pop & Electronica, the project holds a penchant for defying genre while blurring the lines of what is natural or synthetic. As a top notch producer and DJ, Sol.ID has enlightened thousands from LA to Budapest with his trademark crisp breaks, heavy bass and strong melody. These strengths and a busy schedule have led to radio support and collaborations with some of the best and biggest in Bass Music like Goldie & Noah D. In 2011 be on the look out for a plethora of hot new Dubstep, DnB & Hip Hop productions by Sol.ID on his tour dates or at SUB.CONSCIOUS, his series of successful monthly Bass Music events.
KRUXX
(20Hz, Texas Dub - Houston)
http://soundcloud.com/kruxx
Kruxx is one of the youngest people to emerge on the Texas electronic music scene. He began learning to DJ at the young age of 12 and purchased his first set of turntables when he was just 15 years old. Leaning on his deep rooted love of hip-hop, he began gathering inspiration from the likes of The Invizibl Skratch Piklz, Eric B. & Rakim, Gang Starr, KRS-1, DJ Shadow, Afrika Bambaata, and DJ Craze. He began fine-tuning his mixing abilities when he discovered Drum and Bass. It wasn't much later that he met and fell in love with Dubstep. He began spending countless hours learning the history of the sound and developed a deep admiration for the foundation, which is still prevalent in his sets today. You can catch Kruxx around town regularly at Wobble Fridays and Riddim Tuesdays as well as other Bass Musicevents around Houston.
