SO SINCE NOBODY FUCKS WITH VINYL ANYMORE, IS THIS STILL AN ISSUE? IS IT KOSHER TO PAN OR ADJUST THE STEREO DYNAMICS OF BASSLINES? WOULD THAT HAVE ANY EFFECT ON A CLUB SOUNDSYSTEM OR WOULD IT EVEN WORK PROPERLY AT ALL?

JUST TRYING SOME NEW SHIT IN THE LAB TODAY AND I THOUGHT I'D ASK THE PEANUT GALLERY

YEAH, THAT'S WHY I WANTED SOME SOUND ENGINEER INPUT BEFORE I DECIDE TO TRY SOMETHING AND BLOW A MILLION DOLLAR BASSMAXX SYSTEM UP

THE MORE I THINK ABOUT IT, THE MORE I REALIZE THAT THERE ISN'T MUCH YOU CAN GET AWAY WITH SINCE CLUB SYSTEMS ARE MONO LIKE YOU POINTED OUT.

STILL, I'VE HEARD DUDES LIKE DOM & ROLAND DO SOME REALLY INTERESTING STEREO EFFECTS WITH LOW END, AND I WANT TO LEARN MORE ABOUT IT.

Anything below, say, 80 hZ I still treat as mono w/ electronic stuff.

Even do it sometimes with mixing rock bandz.

Consider this: if someone's listening to it on a system w/ a sub, that shit's still gonna be mono no matter what you do. Crossover gonna fork that right down to the mono sub area.

The question is: what frequency range are we talkin bout?

If 100-200 hZ then sure you can get away with some panning.

but anything below that, because of the nature of the way bass frequencies are dispersed, and the way sound systems are set up (crossover point)...not much gonna change if you pan it. Except you might notice a dip when it crosses the center.

if everything below like 200-150hz is mono, then everything will sound cleaner, not just bass. if you layer kicks at all, and they're in phase, AND the low end is mono - it's beautiful.

ozone 5 has it, NUGEN audio makes this thing called monofilter thats a shit ton cheaper that does it. or just use ableton's utility on your sub and check it with a gnoiometer or whatever the hell that thing is that measures stereo and phase relationships.

the upside-down horse shoe thing.

anyway, paulie - I'll send you an email or something if you're interested. mono low end kinda kicks all the asses in the world.

but you know me, I'm not one for speaking dramatically about things...
