SAMPLE PACKS ARE GREAT FOR MINDLESS LITTLE SHIT THAT WOULD OTHERWISE TAKE TIME AWAY FROM ACTUALLY WRITING MUSIC.

I LIKE THEM FOR BUILDS, FILLS, BACKGROUND NOISE, BASICALLY SHIT THAT ISN'T THE MAIN FOCAL POINT OF THE COMPOSITION. THE BETTER SAMPLE PACKS ARE THE ONES THAT DELIVER A QUALITY PRE-ENGINEERED SOUND AND ENOUGH OF THE SOUND TO WHERE YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO SCULPT IT TO YOUR PARTICULAR PROJECT.

I KNOW EVERYONE AND JESUS USES THEM, BUT I LIKE THE VENGEANCE PACKS ALOT. ALSO, SOUNDIRON MAKES SOME PRETTY INTERESTING PACKS ALSO. FUTURE MUSIC CDS ARE PRETTY GREAT TOO IF YOU CAN GET YOUR HANDS ON THEM.

I usually have more fun just programming synth patches. Once you understand the basic process, you can get what you want, exactly...and you don't have the same sound as everybody else.

I mainly use samples for sound efx and drum sounds.

vengeance is all cool and stuff, but pakotek badass claps and snares is dope. theres this one i can't remember tho, its like quantum loops drum construction kit - its BADASS.

they have this folder called "kick tools" that has kick subs, kick mids, and kick hi's. you can just mix and match.

when i make trap shit i'll use an 808 sample (or the D16 Nepheton, or just make one in fm8) and layer it with a mid from that kit and a hi, and dude, that shit hits just right.

i only really use drum samples, but i have to layer them, it bothers me if i just grab a sample, cause its like *almost* what I want, but not ever perfect.

my rule is to layer everything from one hits to breaks.
