cap metro fares rising sooner than planned

The Capital Metro's Board of Directors has approved a fare increase, effective Jan. 1.

Regular bus fare will increase from 75 cents to $1, unless the increase is vetoed by the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization.

Seniors, riders with disabilities and Medicare cardholders will still ride for free.

The fare increase is part of Cap Metro's long-range financial plan to help mitigate rising transportation costs.

The board, however, rejected a budget proposal last month that would use federal stimulus money to hold down fares until August 2010.

The board said it would rather direct the money to develop the commuter rail, which has been postponed since fall 2008.

that's cool - Austin needs it.

The geographic size to traffic ratio is crazy off the charts there.

I live about a mile from work here, but if I walk it, it's 3 because of the crazy roads.

austin is small enough that a rail could work. the problem is these c*nts build rails that go 2 miles. build a rail from Buda to round rock. then maybe people would use the shit.

and the fair pays lik 2% of the operating costs of the bus system so i dont see any reason to raise it.

The rail's supposed to go all the way to Cedar Park, I thought?

I'm highly suspicious of Cap Metro right now, it seems like there's some serious embezzlement going on. All signs point to fraud. Vague delays about "safety issues" and checks that should have been performed well over a year ago, which have quite obviously been futile(if you've seen the pics of the trains crossing a street and the crossing blocks never came down). Gotta love Austin and their worthless public works and planning ideas!!! Worst city I've ever seen for this crap...

round rock is the worst. 120,000 people and 0 buses. i think it's a conspiracy to lock a certain kind of cheap labor into their mostly upper middle class city. you gotta have people to work at your mcdonalds, best buys, outlet malls, and restaurants for virtually nothing. there is a bus that goes to fucking lago vista but not round rock, that's ridiculous cause there isn't shit in lago vista.
